A MUST experience for all!

If you have never been invited to attend a Chinese wedding before, make yourself some single Chinese friends, (and hope they get married someday) because this event you can't miss! This is the ultimate Chinese culture experience. We were honored to attend Viola (one of John's employees) and Xu's wedding at a beautiful historic hotel in downtown Shanghai. After the ceremony, a Chinese feast was held for at least 200 people. The feast was 7-8 courses of some unidentifiable seafood plates that John enjoyed, followed by a traditional wedding cake/champagne ceremony. Our favorite part was the high tech bubble blower machine that filled the tent with bubbles, and the hired MC to assist in keeping the wedding FUN with games and events!!! At one point in the evening they passed a white flower to one person at each table. As music was played, the flower was passed around the table, and when the music stopped the person with the flower approached the stage to answer some trivia questions (thank heavens we weren't the LUCKY flower holders) After the cake cutting, the couple went from table to table to greet their guests and receive red envelope "hong bao's" filled with cash from each of us. Viola is such a darling, sweet girl, and looked beautiful in her wedding gown, as well as the other 2 outfits she changed in throughout the evening. Thanks for the invite Viola!

Aren't these chinese weddings amazing?! And aren't you glad that these traditions aren't ones you have to do for your kid? We'd never be able to afford it!! She sure is a pretty bride. We found that the photographer took almost as many pictures of us as he did of the bride and groom that day. And we aren't as good looking as you guys....so you guys must have REALLY had the photographer busy!! What a fun experience. (Did you get witopia or are blogs unblocked now? Either way, glad to see your blog up and running again. I've missed it!!)

Hey guys! It's Valerie. Hope you don't mind me crashing your blog. It will be fun to read about your life so far away.
Looks like you're having fun and experiencing a lot. I loved the comment about the unidentifiable seafood plates that JOHN enjoyed! haha
I'm going out today to find me some Chinese friends to hook up and get married. I can't wait to experience their wedding.
Take care! Val
