Tyson's Baptism

One hour before the baptism.......the rains came down

Two weeks ago sadly we had to cancel Tyson's baptism due to a "rain scare." We postponed the date to September 20th, 2008. The day was going to be beautiful and perfect. The morning of the baptism we woke to blue skies (not common in Shanghai), and we knew it truly was going to be a perfect baptismal day. However, one hour before the baptism, the skies became very dark, and then VERY, VERY DARK. Lightning, thunder, and then a small flood to the kitchen!! The electricity started to flicker, and then a telephone call from Bracken and Parker telling us the roads near the school were under water, hundreds of Chinese homes were flooding, and they might not be home in time for the baptism. What were we to do??? Do we cancel again? What about the ward members who were already on their way to our home? Was there another day we could reschedule--the calendar was already full!! What do do?? A phone call to the branch president quickly answered all these questions----the baptism MUST go on. Fill the master bathtub---Tyson was getting baptized. Mom's eyes were full of tears---this is not what was planned! Then, a small eight year old boy put it all in perspective. "Mom, why don't we just say a prayer?" Thanks to Tyson and his perfect faith, amazing wisdom, and sweet dimples a lesson was learned especially to his mother. Shortly thereafter, Parker and Bracken returned home safely in time for the baptism, the electricity stayed on, and the flooding stopped. The meeting started with several wonderful supportive branch members in attendance. Bracken gave a wonderful talk on baptism, his primary friends sang a song, and two minutes later the rain came to a complete stop, just in time for everyone to walk into the backyard where Tyson was baptized a new member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Truly, it was the most perfect day ever!

The "rainbow" after the storm---a true miracle!

Tyson Wilde and Karin Dyer--the two newest members of the Shanghai International Branch.

We LOVE you Tyson!

Congratulations to Tyson!! What great faith for an eight-year-old. We are grateful you were baptized and hope you had a wonderful day. Not everyone gets to be baptized in their very own swimming pool.
