The Chinese celebrate their national holiday the first week in October. The boys had the week off, so we took the opportunity to tour Japan. Our first day in Tokyo started even before the crack of dawn. We woke up at 5:00 a.m., and quickly rushed ourselves to Tsukiji Fish Market---the largest fish market in the world. Thousands of tunas from all around the world, numbered with food color, are lined up in rows. Each tuna is attached with a tag with information about the name of the fisherman, and the place caught. At 5:30 a.m. sharp the auction starts. The auctioneers call out the numbers and prices of the tunas. Within 30 minutes more than 200 fish are sold.

One of the Japanese men placing bids for some tuna gave Tyson all the tools needed to make his own bid.

Minutes after winning his bid, this man quickly walks away with his prized tuna. With hundreds of buyers, this market is packed with loaded carts, heavy machinery, and stacks of boxes---luckily we made it out safely!

After the fish market adventure, our first stop in Tokyo was the Kaminari-mon, the main gate of the Sensoji Temple. The huge latern hanging from the gate is known to bring good luck to those who reach high enough to touch it.

Tyson grabs a little "good luck" with help from Parker and Mom.

Behind the main gate stands Sensoji Temple. Since the time of the first shogun, this temple was designated the government's official site for offering prayer. It is well known as being Tokyo's oldest temple.

Bracken stands at the entrance of the Nakamise shopping mall. This was a perfect place for finding Japanese souvenirs, and tasting popular Japanese snacks.

The boys had never tasted Japanese tepanyaki before, so this was a perfect place to do so. We found the most delicious tepanyaki restaurant, and had a great feast.

Parker's favorite---the steak, Tyson and Dad's favorite----the sea bass, Bracken's favorite---the teriyaki chicken, Mom's favorite----not having to see the bill at the end of the meal!

Kent's favorite place to eat is Miraku in Gainesville. Uh... I'm not going to let him see this post. He will feel so deprived. LOVE the pictures. Keep them coming!
