The Sweetness and Simplicity of Summer

There is something to be said about the simplicity of summer. After a crazy and busy last few months in Shanghai, including our packing and preparing for our upcoming move to the US, we all welcomed a very sweet and simple summer.  We had six weeks of pure "downtime" before our shipment from China would reach the United States. We happily took that time in Utah to slow down, and enjoy any activity that would happen to come our way.

With little to no daily scheduled plans, it was fun to see what just developed, and how easy memories can be made by simply "letting it happen."

A few summer highlights included our annual summertime weekend at the cabin, our first annual Wilde family pinewood derby complete with award ceremony and all, movies, BBQ's, s'mores (some on fire), kickball games, and of course spending every minute possible with cousins and family we adore!

While the rest of the family enjoyed the lazy days of summer, Bracken did hardly that.   Instead Bracken worked hard at the Down East warehouse in Salt Lake City assembling and packing furniture for each of their stores.  Understandably he came home exhausted each day!! Big thanks to Carrie and Tyler (Lizzie, Katelyn and Mollie) for allowing him to stay at their home and occupy their couch and TV the entire summer before he headed off to college.  He will always remember spending his summer with the Nevenner family, and the opportunity to be so close to many other family members including sweet great grandma Jorgensen at 93.

What fun your family had! I see those pictures of Linda doing all the crafts with all the grand kids, and I just marvel! She has so much patience for helping them do so many projects! I now see why I teach high school kids (with ankle bands from the jail sometimes or who have been kicked out of regular school) and not elementary kids. To each his own, right?! Anyway, I'm so glad your summer was great!

I loved what you said about memories being made by simply just "letting it happen." We are so scheduled during the school year that we think we need to continue that into the summer. However, summertime should be just that--simple.

Also, in a way, you were blessed to be able to enjoy a little bit of summer without immediately diving into moving into your home.
