The very first week of October, Tyson and Preston had a few requests for me---
1) Halloween"ify" the home,
3) Bring on the traditional fun.
The requests were not difficult ones, however, the only problem was finding the Halloween box storing the decorations and costumes amongst all of our household items in either:
1) The house we are currently living, OR
2) Our "real" house that is being repaired from the fire damage, OR
3) The house that is being used as a storing place for all our belongings once they have been cleaned from the smoke damage.
It was a bit tricky, but thanks to Hua Li and her tracking skills, and a great Chinese helper who came to assist in the decorating process, we were now Halloween "Bootified"........
So, with decorations up, we spent the next three weeks making and ordering Halloween treats, participating in the traditional neighborhood mystery "BOO" fun (secretly taking treats to neighbors and leaving them on the doorstep), and "practicing" our costume wearing for the big day.
Thanks to Tyson and Preston's holiday eagerness, we were Halloween prepared!! Prepared for everything HALLOWEEN, except for........a stomach bug that stung our little Bumblebee Transformer for 4 days!! No fun to miss out on ALL the upcoming festivities planned at school, church and our neighborhood!!
So, as our little transformer lay sick on the couch, Tyson escaped the bug, and transformed himself into..........THIS......
And while his older brothers mocked and were quick to tell him not to get too comfortable in his Halloween gear, later that day he was also quick to tell them he had brought home the first place prize for "Best Costume" in the 4th Grade Halloween Costume Contest!! (An even greater prize that day was having his Dad as a special guest at school for his class Halloween festivities (:
As the Halloween festivities continued throughout the next couple days, so did Tyson and his enthusiasm for holidays......
And right as the festivities were about to end for this year, Preston's GREATEST Super Hero of a Dad picked him up off the couch and carried him through the streets to take in a little bit of Halloween fun. He might not have returned with heaps of candy, but this, along with assisting his biggest brother handing out treats, brought him the biggest smiles of ALL!! Happy Halloween however it happens!!!

Way to go, Tyson! When he told me he was going to be a girl for Halloween, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical, too. But, he certainly pulled it off and won the prize, too! Congrats, Tyson! And little buddy, Preston. I saw your picture when you were sick. It made me feel so sad. But, I'm glad you at least got to enjoy some of the festivities by making other kids happy giving them candy.
Alison, I can't believe you had a fire! Wow! I'm so happy that you are all safe. I teared up reading your post and looking at all your pictures. You guys are so near and dear to our hearts. We love you!
Isn't it wonderful that your children can celebrate Halloween in a far off country just like we do here!!! That Tyson isn't afraid to experience everything in life and not anyone stop him!
You did an amazing job helping your kids to celebrate Halloween. Loved their costumes, your decorations and the great-looking cookies. You should publish your ideas so others can get some great ideas. What cute little trick-or-treat guys!!
I'm so impressed with your dedication to the holiday...or your dedication to your kids. Jace was like, "Who IS that?"
